Song & Stories

It’s Autumn in Melbourne and I think it’s such a romantic season. I wanna share a gorgeous song “Towers” by Gretta Ray. She was only 17 and still in highschool when she produced this beautiful piece. There’s just so much to love about this song, from the fairy-tale like melodies, her beautiful voice and the witty lyrics. It’s a song about unrequited love, which to me is the most passionate kind of love affairs. All my characters are in this sort of relationship, lol. I think that to a degree everybody has unrequited love, it’s virtually impossible to love somebody with the exact same quantum as they love you, as long as we have different minds and perceptions. But it’s not necessarily a bad thing. Why should things be completely equal,  we might as well be robots controlled centrally. It’s the little degrees of differences that provide a chance for a person to complete what’s lacking in the other that I find is the true purpose of unrequitedness. It teaches you to understand, see another’s point of view, and be kind.

Another cool thing I want to share is a manga called “Fumetsu No Anata E” (translated: “To You, The Immortal”) by Yoshitoki Ooima. Myanime’s description of it (which sucks me right in): “a mysterious being was sent to the surface of the earth and met a boy living alone in the middle of a tundra”. From there on, it’s an adventure of discovery. It’s at times hilarious, other times very sad, but all the time it’s a great observation about life and humanity. It’s actually quite a deep philosophical story but the Sci-fi side and gorgeous artwork/characters really make it interesting to follow:

Cameron

Sometimes I like to imagine what sort of person Cameron would be if he didn’t have his illnesses. I think he would be into bio science, he’d be inclined to keep his hair short because his field assignments always take him outdoors and having long hair would just get in his way, he’d be the type to not care about his wardrobe at all and is quite happy for his girlfriend (or mom) to pick whatever they want him to wear, he’d be the type to live in a small apartment, filled floor to ceiling with books, half a dozen science projects strewn around his small kitchen, he’d adopt a single rescue cat, tabby and orange like his hair, the cat would make him feel less bad when teased about being a ginger, he’d be the type to love going barefoot, the feel of grass between his toes excites him just as much as observing a rare whale, he’d be the type to be really awkward and shy when it comes to girls, perpetually confused by and in awe of how nature made the opposite sex, nonetheless he cherishes their intellect and sensitive hearts.

Tanaka Ogeretsu

Oh my God… There’s just no describing how much I love this book by Tanaka Ogeretsu called “Sabita Yoru Demo Koi Wa Sasayaku”.

It tells the story of a guy named Yumi, who fell in love with a schoolmate, and while they were younger, things were awesome, they were two misfits who found comfort and safe haven in each other, but as they grew up, the pressures that came with being an adult broke their innocence. Due to social economic stress, Yumi’s lover became violent and started to abuse him. He doesn’t understand how Yumi can seemingly not be worried about the future, and not having enough money to support their independence. Before long minor irritations and aggression became physical assaults. Yumi though decided to stick by his man in the hope that he will return to the brilliant and kind person he once knew as a schoolmate. Thrown in the mix of things, is Mayama. Another of Yumi’s schoolmate who had only been able to admire Yumi from afar. He has finally found the courage to speak about his feelings for Yumi directly.

It is an amazingly emotional story, one that respectfully and carefully presents delicate subjects such as spousal abuse and workplace bullying. And man the artwork to render those really delicate feelings are just mind blowing. I found myself getting moist eyes more than a few times. And uwaahh, Yumi is just so… sexy T__T… sorry sorry I know I always get distracted by details that I shouldn’t get distracted by!!!

“Coponicus No Kokyuu” by Nakamura Asumiko

“Coponicus No Kokyuu” by Nakamura Asumiko.

I know this is an old manga, but boy does it still send chills up my spine.
I love the story, the artwork and of course Michel… He’s had so much taken away from him. His emotional turmoil is so well illustrated. That poignant state of being in love with something or someone you can’t quite reach. And it’s so incredibly erotic, wow! One of the best stories I have read in my life. You should read it, you’ll know why!

Um let’s see!

As well as collecting dolls, I love to collect stories. There is a TV channel here called SBS, it actually stands for Special Broadcasting Service, but the byline people have of it is “Six Billion Stories”. That’s kind of my goal, to collect six billion awesome stories in my life time (and hopefully more)!

Let’s just start with a few of late that I came across. I like to post links to other people’s works because hey, you know, they’ve put in so much work into their art and the result is soo wonderful, they have entertained me, let me dream a little, so I think the least I can do is talk about them here, as I think they deserve recognition and appreciation. I know I’m probably the only one who comes to my blog, lol, but just in the off chance someone else does come along, then please check out these wonderful works 🙂

Equus by Est Em

This is a collection of short stories written and beautifully illustrated by one of my fave mangaka Est Em. The stories are characteristically satirical, lyrical, poignant and sometimes comical. My favourite is the last story about the Bray Silver. Ahhh, it just makes me swoon :__) You can read it online here: http://mangafox.me/manga/equus/

Helios IV by Custom Lovers

This is such a beautiful photostory about a cosmonaut, who fell from the sky and before he departs this life, I think he’s found the meaning of it and all its mysteries. Haunting, poignant, very thought provoking. And yes!! It features my favourite kind of doll a Venitu (a very handsome one at that!), hehehe! You can read it here: http://liveaustortilandia.blogspot.com.es/2014/08/helios-iv.html (use the translation button for other languages)

Wild at Heart by MK Kayem

Ah this story…. it’s the story I really want to write maybe about my own Venitu doll, but I’m so glad these wonderful authors did such a great job of it. The description from the dust jacket:

“A handsome prince, an abused servant and an untamable white stallion cross lives…”

Don’t be fooled by such seemingly tame and boring description. It’s is so full of angst and homg stuff that would reaally break your heart (there’s one scene where Kyndor was left in the kingdom’s dungeon, basically forgotten and so abused he was barely human, they threw his food onto the ground but he still ate it and he ate it whilst crying, hoooooo at this point I literally had to put the book down and then I had such a big cry haha, omg so embarrassing but so cathartic), but there’s a happy ending that makes it totally worth it. I think this is my fave story of the year. You can read the story online in its entirety here: http://www.mkkayem.com/wild-at-heart.html
